Dreamy Hydrangea Wedding at Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel - Banff Luxury Wedding Flowers
Symona and Jon's love story that led them to a dreamy hydrangea wedding in Banff began with the help of Hinge and its AI compatibility feature. What followed after the two met in March 2023 was a stroke of serendipity as these two seemed to be made for one another.
Symona had a feeling that Jon was the one after learning that he'd travelled to Bangladesh — her family's home country — several times for work. They found out that they had an overlapping trip in 2019, and that Jon even knew more locals than her! It seems their paths always crossed through mutual friends and small world coincidences. To top it all off, Symona needed a partner that could keep up with her passions like living on planes and chasing air miles, and as luck would have it, she found it through Jon.
Through Jon's lens, he quickly admired their commonalities in travel and adventure, similar career interests, and close loving families. He also proved early on that he has a high spice tolerance when Symona took him to Himalaya in Hillcroft — an Anthony Boburdain approved Pakistani restaurant — where he won the respect of the notorious owner "Uncle Kaiser." Not long after, they took their first trip together where Jon felt as if he'd known Symona his whole life, and even saved her from a snake during a romantic hike... and the rest was history!
Our team absolutely relished designing Symona and Jon's wedding flowers. Symona had been dreaming about hydrangeas as the focal flowers for her wedding since she was a child. Hydrangeas were her grandmother's favourite flower and held a special place in her heart for a long time coming. We feel honoured to have helped bring Symona's floral dreams to life on her and Jon's special day.
"One of my favorite moments from our wedding was the reception room reveal, where my husband and I got to see our months of planning come to life! Janie and Julianne blew us away! The room reveal will always be one of my favorite wedding day moments!" - Symona, bride.
Janie loved working on this wedding because it was deeply personal — she grew many of the flowers specifically for Symona and Jon, using 999 blooms from our own cutting garden. The carefully chosen pink and green palette allowed Janie to cultivate the exact flowers we needed, including Queeny Lime Blush Zinnias, Silk White Phlox, hanging green Amaranthus, and Limelight and Lace hydrangeas, among others. Hydrangeas were especially meaningful to Symona, so it was wonderful to feature them throughout the designs, and collaborating closely with Julianne Young Weddings made the whole process even more special.
"We really loved that Janie offered to donate our florals to a local women’s shelter. My husband and I were fortunate to have our dream wedding and we are aware of our how much of a privilege that is. Our families wanted to ensure that our florals did not go to waste after one day of use. Janie transported our blooms back to Calgary, rearranged them and shared them with women at YW Calgary. We are grateful for Janie’s dedication and thoughtfulness!" - Symona, bride.
"I had a very specific request for shades of green hydrangeas — sometimes when you have a specific vision in mind, it’s hard to meet those expectations. Janie surpassed them!! Every little detail was perfectly executed and the flowers held up well. Hydrangeas can be challenging to work with (we had hundreds of them!) and Janie delivered. Her attention to detail is incredible and every floral arrangement was perfect!" - Symona, bride.
Henna and High Tea Party
One reason we enjoy designing for multi-day wedding florals is because the designs don't stop after one day! It also gives couples an opportunity to choose another colour palette showcased through different varieties of florals.
We had the opportunity to design vibrant floral centrepieces for Symona's garden high tea themed Henna party. This event took place before the wedding in the conservatory room at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. A favourite of ours were the welcome sign florals that matched seamlessly with the sign and the conservatory space. This summery colour palette was so beautiful, and many of the florals were grown in our own studio garden!
In South Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures, a henna (Mehndi) party is a significant pre-wedding celebration where intricate henna designs are applied to the bride and guests. Its importance is rooted in cultural and symbolic meanings. Not only does the henna ceremony serve to bless the bride with good fortunes, but it also strengthens bonds with family and friends, and provides a joyous start to the wedding festivities!
"We had guests from all over the world and 6+ months later everyone is still commenting on how incredible our florals were!" - Symona, bride.
